Can't re-install OS.. ks.sys, modem.sys, ndisuio.sys

Please help. I can't re-install my OS as when installing I get an error
saying it can't copy these files:-
ks.sys
modem.sys
ndisuio.sys
nic1394.sys
sonydcam.sys
msh263.drv
uagp35.sys
ntkrnlpa.exe
Any ideas? I have re-formatted the drive. The only luck I had was
installing XP x64 on to the drive which worked but is useless as it doesn't
support my additional software or hardware.....Is it a virus? I have tried my
original cd and back-ups (no scratches etc) always the same files being
dropped.

Have done that, also used 3 different OS installation disks.. Still no good.
I have seen this on 3 machines now and have no idea what to do. It has to be
some kind of virus as no exe's work either, can't get on net or network...

Problems copying files or corrupted files during installation are
most often caused by defective or sub-standard hardware; in order of
likelihood, either RAM, the hard drive, or the motherboard. On very
rare occasions the installation CD is the problem.

System was running perfect for about 2 months after building it. Western

Have tested all components on my other PC's and have no problems..
Definately something interfereing with install

Yes, a hardware problem. Components fail. Sometimes a component that
seems to work fine by itself will not work in combination with another
seemingly good component - that's a compatibility issue. If there's no
OS installed, there cannot possibly be a software or virus problem. It
can be nothing but a hardware issue.

The OS has installed but will not let me install any virus detection although
it does let me install bulletproof spyware remover and winrar. All standard
OS apps like IE, Outlook, etc are removed and have empty folders. I honestly
don't think it's a hardware problem.

That wasn't my original understanding of the problem, then. I'd
understood that you'd had problems copying files during the installation.

That does sound like there might be something there, but I don't see
that could be possible, if you've formatted the hard drive as part of
the installation process. Surely you don't have the computer connected
to the Internet during the initial installation of the OS. That said,
there are some viruses/worms that can preclude the installation of
antivirus applications. Have you tried using one of the many free
on-line scanners?

Outlook isn't part of the OS, or did you mean "Outlook Express?"

... etc are removed and have empty folders. I honestly
don't think it's a hardware problem.

Just to add to Bruce's good advice - on this clean installation after
you've finished the install, what are you next installing? Any drivers
or programs that could be infected? The reason I mention this is that I
recently had a client who came to me fairly hysterical about being
hacked. She told me she had formatted and wiped the drive twice and was
mysteriously still hacked. It turned out that she was installing "sound
card drivers" that she had gotten from an "online friend" and of course
they weren't sound card drivers at all. They were a virus and she was
reinfecting herself every time she installed them onto her new clean
Windows.

Sorted it... Thanks for the advice everyone. I'm still not sure what the
problem was... in the end I removed the drive and reformatted it on another
machine via a usb2 - Ide cable and repaired the MBR. Put back into original
pc and installed the OS without a problem. A friend said it could have been a
virus hiding in the partition data, but who knows.......
Thanks again...

Hi all, just to close this post... It was my Hard Drive in the end. Ran RAM
diag for 2 days with no errors. Swapped out my drive for a different one and
voila no more problems....
Thanks all who tried to help
