can't ping XP embedded

G

Guest

Greetings!
I have installed XP embedded and XP Pro on one computer. While playing with
Embedded (installed according to the tutorial) I was unable to "ping" my
computer from any other in the network, but it's possible in the other way -
I can browse web and such. This problem doesn't exist while using XP Pro. Do
I have to enable somehow the possibility to see this compter in the network?
I've tried building the system without the firewall, but it didn't work.
Thank you in advance for any help!

Hi,

2 Options:

- Add the Windows Firewall Component and set to disabled (in TD)
- On Runtime Image stop the Windows Firewall service...

From inside the Windows Firewall component, inside the ICMP section, you
cans check the ping option.

Check two of the following things:
1. If you have included the Windows Firewall component:
- Go to Control Panel => Security Center => Windows Firewall =>
Advanced => Network Connection Settings => ICMP tab and select the
check boxes depending on your requirements or disable the firewall.

2. If the windows firewall component is not in the image or if it is
disabled, still there is an entry in the registry of the target image
i.e.,[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE]\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\SharedAccess.
Delete this entry and restart the machine.
(do not forget to export this registry key for backup:))

I hope it will help to solve the problem.

Another wonderful thing about the SP2 firewall is that if you have two
networking devices that are both firewalled you can only ping one of
the devices. I ran into this problem on a device that has both a
Wireless card and built-in Ethernet. I had to disable the Ethernet
firewall to be able to ping both devices.
