Can't open this item. Outlook has already begun transmitting

Attempted to send email with photos attached and the message is stuck in
Outbox (several days now) and cannot be opened, deleted, forwarded, etc, etc.
Followed instructions for solving problem in Outlook Help to no avail.
Outlook continues to try to send, but the message remains in Outbox. Cannot
remove message from machine.

You may have to repair your database. I ran into this once before and I
believe that was the only option.
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;287497
Gives details on doing this. If I recall correctly; it's because the
message with attachement is too big and it is getting rejected from the ISP
for relaying; then other issues crop up within Outlook itself; either way,
the message is corrupted now.
I would also try to delete the message while not being 'online'. It's
possible that you can't do anything if you have DSL because it starts to try
and resend before you can tell it to do anything else. So, don't go online;
wait for a timeout, then delete the message; or repair the folder. Hope this
helps.

Cyberline: Thank you for the kind response. I could not remove message
offline and cannot get scanpst.exec to scan *.pst file. because it says that
there is an unknown error preventing the scan. Very frustrating... Thanks,
again!

Ms Orland:

Thank you for trying to help. Attempted to follow your instructions, but
still could not delete message from Outbox. New Personal Folders appear at
bottom of Folder List, but they have nothing in them.

Then you didn't follow all the instructions.

The first thing you should have tried was to take Outlook offline.

Ms Poremsky:

Thank you!

I made a "New Personal Files" and set it as default delivery and tried to
delete message from the old Outbox pst, but could not. I printed out the
instructions below and thought I followed them correctly. I tried it twice
and created two sets of Inbox, Outbox, etc folders under the old ones in the
Folders List. Still no change. I closed one set.

Ms Poremsky:

Was messing around closing Outlook, shuting down computer, etc and ended up
going to Favorite Folders while offline and clicked on stuck message in
Outbox and it opened. I couldn't belive it! I quickly deleted the
attachments one by one and then the message itself. They are all gone now
and I am back in service.

Thank you!!!

Did you stop and restart Outlook after you did that?

I had the problem for 4 days and no one could help me. The Knowledge base was
no help either, but one post from this forum gave me an idea. I went off
line, clicked Tools, Mail Box Cleanup, searched for any file over 9999 kb as
my outgoing email was larger. It showed that eamil and some others in
Outlook. I clicked on the hung up email, hit Delete, it asked me if I wanted
to Delete, I clicked Yes, and it disappeared. No redoing files, exporting,
importing, etc.

I cannot tell you if going offline enabled this action or not, but if anyone
else finds out, I would love to know.

But I am not going to load up another mega email to find out!

Hi Joseph (and Bob). I had the same trouble. and did all the things Microsoft
told me to do but to no avail. Then wow, read your email and guess what
worked for me too and I was online. Great work! Thanks Heaps.
