Can't install from CDROM (No emulation system type error)

Just purchased new Maxtor 40GB HD and now am trying to
install WIN 2000. When it tries to boot from the CD I get
the message "no emulation system type (C00)". THen it says
NTLDR is missing. What gives?

I am installing this on an older ASUS P2B motherboard
(1999 vintage) but have the most recent BIOS update. The
hard drive formatted and setup fine, BIOS recognizes all
40GB.

How did you do the install of Windows 2000? Are you getting thie message
on the first reboot durning install of 2000? Did you partition and
format durning Windows 2000 setup?

The emulation error probably pertains to El-Torrito emulation In other
words, the bios does not support booting from CD. Nothing stops you from
booting from an older OS's start diskette with CD-Rom support and running
winnt.exe from within the W2K CD's I386 directory. Or makeboot the W2K
diskettes and start installation with those.
