can't get windows xp to boot after error in windows update

So I was trying to update my Windows XP with the latest updates by
going to the MS website. It said that I needed an update and started
to install what I belive was an update for .NET Framework 3.5. But
during the install my computer froze (still had the desktop up) and
the light to my mouse went out. So I waited for an hour or so and
restarted it. When booting, it came up to the screen where it says
that it had a problem and asks if I want to boot to safe mode, last
known good config, etc. So I tried to boot to safe mode and while the
Windows splash screen comes up for a bit, it will never load and it
restarts. So I tried to boot to each of the modes, (safe, safe with
command prompt, safe with networking, and last known good config) and
each time it will just bring up the Windows splash screen and
restart. So then I thought I'd try to do a repair so I boot to the XP
CD and choose the Install, but it does not give me the option to
Repair. It only gives me the Install or Quit options. Does anyone
know how to perform the repair funtion? Or is there any other way for
me to fix my problem?
