Can't Free Hard Drive Space

S

shchmue

I installed a new hard drive recently and it's nearly
full. When I try to delete files or move them to the other
drive, the amount of Free Space listed does not change.
Highlighting all the files on the drive and viewing
Properties tells me that all the files on the drive take
up 103 GB. The Maximum capacity is 111 GB. However, it
only displays 708 MB free. What exactly is the problem?

You may well have 5-6 gig of hidden files.

You might be tripping over the different definitions of a GB:
HD folks say 1 GB = 1,000 MB = 1,000,000 KB = 1,000,000,000 B;
M$ folks say 1 GB = 1,024 MB = 1,048,576 KB = 1,073,741,824 B.

So, if your 111 GB HD is what the HD vendors claim, then M$
would (sometimes) report it as a 103 (or so) GB HD.
