Can't delete or move file

book_new.doc file was created by doing a save as in WordPerfect because
the person I wanted to share it with didn't have WP. After being told
that he got the file via email, I tried to delete it but got the never
popular 'file in use by another program' message. For some forgotten
reason, I decided to try to move it to the desktop and was successful.
Now, I can't do anything with it -- move, modify, etc. - except open it
with Word. I've rebooted a few times but that hasn't changed the
situation.

Help please!

1. Open an elevated command prompt by clicking Start > All Programs >
Accessories and right-click Command Prompt, then ‘Run as Administrator’.
From the prompt type CD %userprofile%\Desktop and press Enter, now type del
name (where name is the file to be removed, e.g. abc.def) and press Enter.
This should remove the file. If it does not, then keep the command prompt
open and
2. Hit Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open Task Manager. On the Processes Tab, select the
explorer.exe process and end it to halt the desktop. Switch to the command
prompt window and retry the del(ete) command. Now go to the Application Tab
of Task Manager and pick 'new task'. Enter explorer.exe and click 'OK' to
restart the desktop.

Neither worked the first or second or third time even with
reboots/restarts. A lightbulb finally went off -- after another restart,
I didn't do anything except immediately open a command window, navigate
to the desktop directory and type delete book_new.doc. The file is
finally gone.

Thanks for the help.
