Can't delete a Shortcut from desktop after uninstalling a program

I installed the AVG free antispyware software which I thought was a permanent
program but after installing it, I noticed that it said it was only a 30 day
trial version. So I uninstalled it but the shortcut remained on the desktop
and now I cannot delete it. I already have the patch for removing undeletable
emails stuck in windows mail, but that obviously doesn't work for anything
outside the mail program. Can anyone help me out with this problem thanks.

You could try, right click on 'start orb',
explore
go to decktop folder (usually at the top of the tree)
find the offending desktop icon
right click on that icon
delete.

Worth a try.

I have actually manged to delete the icon now myself by installing the
program again then deleting the icon on the desktop, but thanks for that info
though CL I will try and remember that for next time. Cheers Chris

Reboot - it'll go away anyway...Had the same problem way back.

An easier way: Right-click the desktop, in the context menu select Refresh.
Or just hit F5.
