Can't Copy large file from network

E

Ed Finley

I'm trying to copy a 4 GB file from my laptop to my home computer using my
LAN. I have 100GB free but keep getting a message that there's insufficient
hard drive space. I've also tried copying to a smaller drive with 6 GB
free. I can copy 600MB files with no problem. Any help will be
appreciated.

Copying over a network can be troublsome. is this one
huge 4GB file, or is it many files totalying 4GB. if it
is a bunch of smaller files try starting out only copying
a few hundard MB's.

Fat32 can actually handle a 4G file but that is the largest. It's only
individual applications that limit file sizes to 2G in order to
maintain backwards compatibility with FAT16 without having to query
the system about the file structure.

I think I accidentally just sent a blank reply to this. My
apologies.

My apologies also for the bad info. Yes, FAT32 is limited to 4GB.
not 2GB.

It was FAT32. I've changed it to NFTS and it's working fine. Thanks for
the help.

'Tis cool. :)

Actually a likely culprit since the max is just a few bytes shy of a true
4G. Of course until we hear back from the OP with regard what the file
system is on the target system........
