Can't copy hid.dll file during setup.

Hi,

I am trying to set up XP Pro and I get this message about 30% into the
set up.

setup cannot copy the file hid.dll

What is this file ? Is it necessary? What should I do?

This was a clean setup, new formatted drive, no programs on it at all,
no a/virus options were touched in standard bios setting.

Thanks

'Human Interface Devices' user library.

Not really, but I guess install won't complete without it.

Try (gently) cleaning the CD, &/or use an appropriate cleaner on the CD
drive itself .. however if it's always the same file, it's probably a
spot of dust, fingerprint, scratch, etc. on the CD disk. If all else
fails, borrow another one, or take the original back to where you bought
it and swap it (or if you have time to spare, MS will swap it for you,
for some nominal fee, assuming it's a real MS CD).
