Can't connect to two computers

J

JV

Hi,

Have a number of laptops, desktops, Windows XP Home,
Windows XP Pro, Windows 98 computers.

All can access each others "shared docs" folder ok except
on two computers. The two troublesome computer can see
and access everyone else, but nobody can access these
computers shared docs folder, or any other folder for
that matter.

Also the two troublesome computers don't seem to show up
in the list of computers that show in the "My Network
Places" folder, but they do appear in the View Workgroup
Computers folder.

Users get prompted for a user name and password when thay
try to access two troublesome computers.

According to the network connections I've confirmed that
the MS Automatic Firewall is off.

We haven't and don't want to use usernames and passwords
as we haven't had to to date and have not had troubles
like this for years.

Bye & thanks to all who offer ideas, tips, suggestions,
solutions, etc!

assuming you don't have firewall running, check the master browser status.
if they are w2k/xp, you may want to start or stop the computer browser.
