Cannot Type Text in Outlook Express or Internet Explorer

When you try to type text in the message area of a new
message in Outlook Express 5, you may not be able to, and
the insertion point may not move. Also, you may not be able
to type text in a search pane in Internet Explorer or
another Internet browser program. (Copied from knowledge
base,)

they gave a problem, a cause and a solution, the solution
didn't work, it does specify that it's only for ie5 and i
use six maybe that's why, either way i still have the above
problem. i can't type emails, and i can't search in places
like google, i can only type in the address bar.

here is more info from the knowledge base

CAUSE
This issue can occur if the Mshtmler.dll file in the
Windows\System folder is missing or damaged.

RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, extract the Mshtmler.dll file from
the Ie_4.cab file on the Internet Explorer 5 CD-ROM into
the Windows\System folder. For information about extracting
files from the CD-ROM, please see the following article in

I have the same problem, but only with IE6. I followed all the spyware,
adware searches, found nothing of note, and still could not get rid of this
problem. Any other suggestions?
