I have XP Pro upgraded to SP2, but for some strange reason, I cannot turn on
Windows Firewall. When trying this in Control Panel>Security I get msg,
"..cannot be displayed because assoc. service is not running". Clicking OK
to ask service to start, get msg., "Windows cannot start Windows Firewll/
ICS... Going to Control Panel>Performance & Maint>Admin. Tools>Services and
attempting to start same, get msg., "Error 998, Invalid Access to Memory"?
Can anyone suggest a way to repair without reinstalling SP1 then upgrading
to SP2 and wrestling with Activation? (Could delete SP2 in "Add & Remove
Programs" and then re-upgrade to SP2? Is there a way to "repair" from some
CD?)
