Windows Vista Cannot set default printer!!!

dell desktop and dell V715w all in one printer unable to print from works or adobe or any other program except the net and the test page. When trying to print from the Works it says i need to set a default printer so I go into control panel under printers and it is there, right click and set as default hower nothing happens. No checkmark or anything. Still no print but the net and testpage can communicate. Can anyone help please??? The spooler configuration is set to automatic if that helps. This is the third printer purchased dont want to return another. Desktop is 6 months old. Thanks

Unplug printer from USB socket


Try removing all printer software and drivers


reboot

install all drivers and the plug in printer when instructed

reboot

i dont use vista so really cant say much to help sorry
