Cannot Find Recycler Message

There is a very good chance are that you are seeing the affects of a
hijackware infection.

1. See if you can download/run the MSRT manually:

2. Run the Windows Live Safety Center's 'Protection' scan (only!) in Safe
Mode with Networking, if need be:

3. Run a /thorough/ check for hijackware, including posting the requested
logs in an appropriate forum, not here.

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA) computer repair shop.

Win XP SP3.

I have my laptop HD partitioned CPrimary) and D and F as Extended
Partitions.

I can open My Computer and select and view C with no problem. However, if I
try to open either D or F, I get a message something like, "Cannot find
Recycler\and a whole string of numbers.com. Make sure you type the name
correctly."

This occurs in both normal and safe modes and has popped up since I last
used my laptop back in late February.

I can use the command prompt to access D and F with no problems. An earlier
restore point doesn't correct the problem.

Will someone please give me a hand in getting this straightened out?

Please r-click the Recycle Bin on your desktop, select Properties, and
review the settings.

Some more information.

I can access D and F via Windows Explorer and use the files as I wish.
Further, I can use shortcuts on my desktop to Quicken, Excel and Word files
and have them launch in the appropriate application.

That would seem to say the problem lies within My Computer but what do I
know.

Yes, thank you. I have be putting off trying to un-hijack until I had a
block of time to devote to it. Will get to it tomorrow.

BTW, I just noticed an autorun.inf file on each of the partitions. they
refer to the same recycler file that appears in the windows message. I got
rid of the one on D and now can use D with abandon .

There should not be any Autorun.inf files in the root directory of those
partitions, you have an infection.

morning to run MSRT, AVG, Adware and Spybot on the laptop. All sorts of
unexpected things showed up including references to the Recycler item I
first mentioned. All appears well now.
