If you don't use an LDAP account remove it from your mail profile via
Tools-> Account Settings...

I get this message when I begin a new mail message.

It means what it says. You have an LDAP directory defined as a service and
that directory is unavailable. If you don't want it, click (for Outlook
2002/2003) Tools>E-mail Accounts>View or change existing directories or
address books>Next and remove it. If you have a different version of
Outlook, write back. You should always in clude your Outlook version when
posting.
