Can See my network, Cant Browse Internet

I just installed windows vista beta 2 ... for somo strange reason I can't
browse the internet but I can see my network. Doing a little research myself
found that it has something to do with vista SPI incompatibility. So the only
way for me to browse the internet freely is to disable the firewall/spi
option in my router configuration. But my isp won't provide the user and
password to change to do this. Any idea to walk around this problem and be
able to browse internet in my vista box?

I have a much simular problem. I've _no_ router, just my DSL modem. I can
log on, verify username and password, but I can't communicate. I have to
feed in the xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx number into the browser window, then it seems to
work. I've worked with my Computer shop and ISP, tried every possible
variation, with no results. So, I'm on a borrowed machine. Does anyone have
any sort of solution????

There are new tcp protocols vista uses. They are enabled by default so you
have to ensure that you have the latest drivers for the network interface as
well.....

What is the proceedure??? Where do we obtain these drivers? I can't connect
to the internet on that unit, so I'd have to download them on this borrowed
unit to a disc to move them to the other unit. Thanks! Note: I used the
drivers that came with Vista, is there a problem with the Vista program?
Thanks!!!

May help or as a thought can you connect to modem or router with USB? NB
there are many many issues regarding networking with vista still. Ive seen
interesting things that make me smile when it does work and really scratch
my head when it doesn't. I thank god I installed on a spare drive......

Just found this thread in another vista group -general-

Judoka,

I've made some progress where I've actually been able to install the driver
and have Vista reporting that the modem's driver is running properly. I am
however unable to connect to the Internet! Doh!

I, like you, have my modem showing up as a miniport driver but with "WAN"
before miniport. Is this what your PC is also showing? I have spent
considerable time troubleshooting my system to get it to connect to the
Internet, but have failed.

Any input would be appreciated.

Cheers.

You are quite right it should have said Wan miniport

I have retraced my steps and have listed out as best i can the way i was
able to set up broadband:

Run speed touch 64bit driver R4.0.0.5 select provider any then service PPPoE
Press next

VPI.VCI setting for my ISP(Wanadoo UK) is 0.38 you will have to check this
with your own ISP or search through folders in any set up disc you may have
to find them. Normally they are in a file named phonebook.ini

Set up wizard will now ask for your user name and password. Enter details
then press next.

Wizard now asks connect to internet yes or no. Select no press next.

You will now get a pop-up saying Speedtouch wizard has stopped working.
Click close program.

Now double click the network icon bottom righthand of screen. If you do not
have an icon then control panel and select network centre.

Once in network centre select set up connection or network.

Select connect to internet.

Select new connection

Select broadband PPPoe

Type in user name and password.

That should set up your connection.
Remember if you want to connect to the internet you must right click
network icon bottom right then select connect to internet then connection you
wish to use then press connect.
If you have no icon then as before go to control panel and network centre
and connect there.
