can receive but can't send emails in Outlook 2003

Hi,
my email has been working fine since set up in January, and then lately it
started - firstly intermittently and now permanently doing this:
the pop up screen asking me to Enter Network Password appears; I enter and
click Ok (having first checked its correct) but it just keeps bouncing back
and then I get the error message:
Task 'mail.btinternet.com - Sending' reported error (0x800CCC92) : 'Your
e-mail server rejected your login. Verify your user name and password in your
account properties. Under Tools, click E-mail accounts.'
I try to do this but there is no box to do this under email accounts. I have
been on to my ISP and they say its not them which I am inclined to believe
because I can receive emails and can use it ok via webmail. But I really need
Outlook for work and am really stuck.
I am not very technical. Any help gratefully received!
thanks
Kate

Click Tools, Email accounts.
Choose View or Change existing email accounts.
Make sure that the correct account is highlighted in blue, and then
click the Change button.

In the lower right corner, there is a button that says "More
Settings". Click that.
Then click on the second tab over, labeled "Outgoing server"

I don't know how your personal email is supposed to be setup, but I
suspect that if you uncheck the box that says "My outgoing server
requires authentication", your problems will go away.

if they don't, or if that box was already checked, then put (or
replace) the check mark, and make sure that the bullet labeled " Use
same settings as my incoming mail server" is checked.

As a last resort, you can manually fill in your information under the
bullet labeled "logon using". Make sure that all boxes labeled "Log on
using Secure Password Authentication" are unchecked unless told
otherwise by your ISP.

Kate,

Were you able to get this fixed? If so, how? I'm running into the same
problem. Outlook 2003, and it keeps asking me for my password and I can
receive but can't send.

Please help!

Are you properly authenticating to the outgoing server?
