can not run my game after upgrade

I did have win98 on my pc and now I have win2000pro.
I tried to play Operation Flashpoint and now it dosent
work. I think it might have something to do with directx
but im not sure.I installed directx 9 with no change in
function. so i reverted back to directx 8 and that did
nothing. this is what i get when i try to run my game.
"Cannot create 3D device:
Adapter 0 (Nvidia Riva TNT2) Fullscreen
Resolution 1024x768,format R5G6B5/D16, refresh 75 Hz.
Error D3DERR_INVALIDCALL"
Im downloading updated drivers for my video card to see if
that helps. Other that that Im at a loss !!!!!!

Did you format and installed win2k or did u upgrade from win98 to win2k?.
