Can an OEM version be upgraded using a retail version?

g.

i have an oem version of xp home. i want to upgrade to
xp pro. can i use the retail version of xp pro to
upgrade?

i have a problem with ie closing. when i click the X the
window goes away, but the ie's button remains in the
taskbar. i have to click on the button in the taskbar to
get it to close. is there a preference that has to be
set or unset or what? Or is this a hardware problem?

Thanks,
g.

Hi,

Question 1: Yes, you can upgrade.

Question 2: I'd reinstall IE, but the upgrade will do that for you.

If this is a OEM computer you can use a retail to upgrade an oem xp, but we
aware that you will most likely void your warranty and your support from the
oem. Once you go non oem, they cut you lose.
If the computer is not oem and you just have the oem version of xp, then go
for it.
