Hi
The subject says it all. Heres the info on my motherboard:

System
Manufacturer : VIA Technologies, Inc.
Model : VT8363
ID : FFFFFFFF-FFFFFFFF-FFFFFFFF-FFFFFFFF

Mainboard
Manufacturer : Jetway
MP Support : No
Model : 8363A-686B
System BIOS : 12/14/2001-8363A-686B-6A6LMJ19C-00
Chipset : VIA KT133/A

The manual says this motherboard will support an authlon up to 1.33GHz, can
the bios be upgraded to support faster CPUs? What BIOS upgrade would
I need? (I find jetways web site confusing)

Thanks

Depends on the specific make and model.
Each one is different. In general a specific chipset can support a
general range of CPUs but it also depends on the specific board. In
general most boards tend to have a bios update that lets the board
recognize some new CPUs released around the time the board but if the
CPU design is radically different and depending on some of the
components used on the MB - it can limit the types used on the board.

My old ASUS KT133a for instance the 1.05. revision boards officially
supported XP athlons while earlier versions did not. But in actuality
- some early boards could run Xps and some post 1.05. had problems
with them.

I would be really surprised if your PC couldnt support a non XP 1.4
gig - not sure if it can support an XP chip though.

Thats why I dont like to buy really offbrand MBs they dont have good
website info etc. Your manufacturer should have all the MBs sold in
the last few years with bios revisions stating what CPUs are
supported. But more importantly the well known brands have their own
newsgroups where you can find a wealth of specific info.

Wasnt Jetway - PC Chips ?
