C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\My Videos\.....a system folder??

me again

I'm trying to re-install Pinnacle Studio 9. During the install it tries to
install a file, Photoshoot.mpg, into the folder C:\Documents and
Settings\All Users\Documents\My Videos\.

However, the installation stops because Windows says access is denied and
the install is aborted. A check of the properties indicates this folder as
well as My Pictures and My Music are read-only and Windows says they are
system folders and cannot be accessed, deleted, altered, etc.

I have re-installed the program in the past without any problems. My
question is does it make sense that these folders would be read-only system
folders? How can I change the attributes so I can finish installing my
program.

I'm asking the question here instead of at the Pinnacle forum because this
appears to be more of an XP issue than a Studio 9 issue.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

When you change the properties so the folders are not readonly what
happens?

It wasn't allowing any changes to be made. It kept saying access denied.

However, I right-clicked on one of the folders and selected properties. I
then went to Sharing and checked "Share this folder on the network". It gave
me an error but it somehow unlocked the folder for me. I was then able to
finish installing the program. I'm not sure why I even tried that because I
don't know enough about file sharing to understand it. All I know is that it
worked.

However, it brings up another question. Under the General tab, Attributes,
ALL of the folders have a grayed out check mark for read-only including the
ones I couldn't access. I can click on the box and change it from grayed out
to blank to a solid check mark but it always goes back to the grayed out
check.

Is this normal? The folders obviously are not read-only because I can access
them and yet they have the box checked.

Thanks again

It is normal. Read only is an attribute that has no meaning for folders
(the directories are always open for writing), and XP makes an
alternative use of it. You can change it and on Apply it will ask if
you want the change applied to all contained objects, but the display of
it for the folder will revert to greyed

Your original problem might have been a need to r-click the folder,
Properties and on the Security page ensure that your account has full
control access. Or it may be that you were trying to do it from an
account without Admin status
