bypass start up files and Function Keys

Can anyone help me...

How do you bypass your start up files in windows xp?? I
know in windows 98 you held down the shift key.

Do you know where I can get a list of all the Function
keys, as I was trying to refresh my screen and I am sure
it F5 or F8, but neither of them seem to have done
anything.

Thanks

Thanks Kelly, however, I was unable to find either of what
I was looking for :-(

It is a really cool site...but I looked under f for
function, but the only thing I could find was F6...which
doesn't really help me much.

thanks anyway
