bulk editing of meta data on .jpg image files

Can someone identify for me a simple and safe (no viruses, Tojan horses,
etc.) program for bulk editing of .jpg image file meta data. I would
like to be able to simultaneously edit the "subject" field on all the
..jpg files in a given directory.

Microsofts Digital Image Library program (which I have) claims to be
able to bulk edit the Title field, but I've not been able to get the
program to run, let alone get the editing function to work.
