Buffer overrun?

Hi,

I have windows XP Home when I had reset during startup when everything went normally except this message popped up:

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

Buffer overrun detected
Program: c:\WINDOWS\TEMP\updl125.exe

A buffer overrun has been detected which has corrupted the programs internal state. The program cannot safely continue execution and must now be terminated

the only option was 'OK' after pressing enter I assume the program terminated and then everything is fine. Bu tI would like toi know if anybody knows what this message is about. I don't want a small problem to turn into a biggie. Thanks

It's a nice habit to clean out your temp file folder before you install
new ware.

We have found the only fix for this issue. Update the video car
drivers and the buffer overrun issue disappears!

That might be the specific case of buffer over-run that you ran into;
but there are many other places around that still have such over-runs.
Installing SP2 gets rid of many, while implementing checks for when they
happen; probably what you ran into. If that is detected in a specific
program that you cannot update, go to Control Panel - System - Advanced
- Performance Settings - Advanced - Data Execution Prevention and Add
the program as one for which this will not be applied. But you are in
danger
