Browsing network, but locks up after a few in, then after a few minutes works.

My roomates and I have a home lan setup to access one
computer with a 120gig hard drive and a 200gig hard drive
for file sharing.

Roomie 1 has a Toshiba laptop running xp pro
Roomie 2 has a Toshiba laptop running xp pro
roomie 3 has a home built laptop runnin xp pro

Shared computer were connecting to is a home built
running Xp pro, everyone has XP Pro.

We've all got the most recent service packs installed and
updates. And yet when one of us browses the network it
will work flawlessly for a few directories but after a
few folders in say... Divx\Videos\Music Videos\ , the
window will freeze and the desktop will hang and no
matter what you click nothing will open you cant ALT-Tab
into programs you already had open but after about
5minutes the window will unfreeze and everything you
clicked loads up or closes. This only happens when we
browese onto another computer. Sometimes even opening a
root drive up the window will lock up.

When we had the shared computer running 98SE only the
people with XP had the problem of freezing windows, no
problem when we were running ME but with everyone having
XP it hangs. Whats the deal here? anyone has else having
this problem? Anymore info just ask more then glad to
post. i browsed through the newsgroup didnt see anything
like this. thanks all

Erik,

one thought is that it may be caused by having IEEE 802.1x
authentication enabled, but no such server is present. Check the
properties of your LAN connection for this.

For other possible causes please have a look at
