Beta2 will not start with Windows.

Question
Beta2 will not start with Windows and there is no MSASCui.exe running in
task
manager until I start the program manually.
Yes it's running in Task Manager but that's with the icon in the tray after manually starting the program. If I exit the program at the icon,it no longer runs MSASCui.exe in the task manager. No icon -- No runing of MSASCui.
There is no reference to Beta2 in the system config in the start up program
list.
It is in the services section and shows it to have the service running.
Also the update's will not work.
I have reloaded it 6-7 times to try to get it to function properly and
cleared the entire machine of MS Spyware (Giant) traces.
I am running XP Pro.

Is there a way to get it to start on boot up?

There is no entrys in task manager that the program or any part of the
program is running without the icon in the tray after a manual start.
Everything is checked in the set up or tool part and it still won't start
with Windows on boot up.
It is NOT shown in the system config utility in startup programs,Sooooo it
dont start on boot.....

Beats me! Did you run anti-spyware and virus scan before install? I had to
run those plus sfc /scannow and chkdsk /R because I had been infected with
"unknown malware" and CWS.svchost. I ended up with a good install of
WinDefend. I also had to uninstall/reinstall Webroot Spysweeper after that
infection because it wasn't working right. Of course, it could be some
technical problem the experts could answer.

If the Windows Defender service is running, Windows Defender is providing
real-time protection to your system. MSASCui.exe should not be running at
startup, by design.

Go to a command prompt and type net start and hit enter.

Do you see Windows Defender listed?

I don't disagree with you, in terms of the risk, but:

Are you sure that the icon and the real-time protection, are, in fact,
coupled?

RTP is provided by the system service--the icon is associated with
MSASCui.dll, I think.

I agree with your feeling that we need to know if the service providing RTP
has been attacked or defeated in some way. In Vista, that would be provided
by the Security Center. Not sure what possibilities there are for XP, but I
believe this is being considered.
