Beginning of Recovery Console - Stuck on Installation prompt

This morning when I turned on my system after a Norton Live update last
night, I had the following error: Stop: c0000218 - The registry cannot load
the hive (file): WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SOFTWARE.

After finding support # 307545, I do fine and get to the Recovery Console,
but then at " Select the installation you want to access" I get stuck. What
do I enter here? I think I can continue, but need a bit more information.

Have you tried a 'Repair' install instead of using the Recovery Console.
That is a better solution. That article is very convoluted and perhaps ought
to be withdrawn. Have a look at the following article by Michael Stevens:

I appreciate the input, I have printed the instructions for a repair and will
try that.
