Battery problem

Hi

I have a Dell Inspiron 2200 running XP. I can no longer run on the battery.
If i press FN + F3 to view battery level nothing shows up. When i go to
control panel, power options and power meter tab, it says under the battery
picture "not present". When i hit F2 on start up and check the battery meter
here it says "not present". Using Dells diagnostic tools, under battery it
came up with error code 3600:0123 Left battery bay, battery charger test
fail. I checked out this error code and someone had a similar problem and
downloaded the latest BIOS. When i download and install the BIOS it gets too
a point where it asks for you to connect AC & battery (which i am doing) but
goes no further. Also, not sure if the problem is related, when i press FN +
F10 to open the disc drive, nothing happens. Sorry to waffle but can anybody
help !!

Buy a replacement battery, charge it and try the new
battery.

Don't screw with the BIOS, you'll possibly kill the
computer.

If a computer buddy has a known good battery, try that
before you buy.

All else fails, send it to Dell for repair.

I have the same problem with my Dell Inspiron B130 after (hardly) using the
same battery for 20 months. It's really weird how it stopped being detected,
just out of the blue.
Just wondering if you have found a solution yet. Did it work with another
battery?Thanks.

Same problem with my Dell Inspiron 8500. Had original battery for about 4 years, no problems. Then all of a sudden when I turn it on, I get "AC Adapter type cannot be determined". Of course my adapter is somewhat chewed on by my cat and wrapped with electrical tape but I've been using it that way for about a year. Laptop runs on AC, no problem. Shows the battery when I go into power info, but with "X" through it, no charge. Battery icon does not show, only charging on AC power. Ran diagnostic test and everything passes except battery. Error 3600:0123 battery test fail reporting attached charger. Ordered new battery and AC charger. Does not fix, same thing happens.
Out of warranty and Dell says I should now replace motherboard at $500. Any updates on this problem?

Straighten out the little pin in the laptop receptacle where the ac
adapter plugs in. You have likely bent it and mashed it into the hole.
