AVG 7 not working?

T

T.R.

I had my firewall alert me that AVG was trying to send mail out. I
didn't know that AVG sends mail out so checked the firewall logs and
sure enough, it is trying to send an email every few seconds. So, I
goto the AVG site to send an email to tech support and find out that
my POP and SMTP had ben changed. Hummm???? I change them back to
what they are suppose to be and send my email out to AVG as to why it
is trying to send out email.

I then decide to do a test on AVG so email a copy of eicar to myself.
AVG doesn't catch it going out or coming in and yes email scanning is
turned on. I then tell AVG to scan the eicar file directly on my HD
and it does not see it as a virus. In other words, AVG is not
working what so ever and probably never was from all indications.

Any suggestions before I get this thing off my computer and go back to
Norton (Ugh!) which at least did work.

Your description is one of an infected computer. You need a second
opinion. Google for: online virus scan

Many of the newer crop of viruses/worms/trojans can turn off or disrupt
your anti-virus program.

...but it might not now.

Did two online virus scans and turned up nothing. Turned off AVG and
installed NAV 2003, updated its definition files and ran it and turned
up nothing. So, deleted AVG and left NAV on.

I have no idea what happened but AVG seemed to have bombed with no
virus/trojan/worm or whatever showing up as the cause with running two
online checks and NAV.

Who Knows?

Thanks anyway for the reply.....
