Automatic CCs in Mail Merge letters (Word) and e-mail messages

(1) I need to send letters to certain people on a regular basis, and I need
to include copies to others (different ccs for each one). However, I cannot
find a way to save names in the "cc" field in Contacts for use in Mail Merge
letters.

(2) I have also been asked to cc specific people whenever I e-mail certain
people.

In both of these cases, there should be a way to store cc information with a
person's contact information for use in letters or e-mail messages. Any
ideas?

You should ask in the Word group dedicated to mail merges, but AFAIK you
cannot merge to more than one email recipient field.

I am not trying to merge to more than one email recipient. I have found a
field in Contacts called "cc", but it won't let me enter a value. If I
could, I would enter the name of someone I was asked to copy on all messages.
Then, at least I would be reminded to add the person as a cc when I compose
email messages. Plus, the name I enter would transfer to the Word document
in Mail Merge and appear at the bottom of the letter next to "cc:"

As Russ indicated, mail merge can't perform Ccs. There is also no built-in
mechanism to Cc a particular person when you send to some one. That's not to
say it's impossible, but it would require either VBA code or a third-party
tool.

You misunderstood. The only email recipient field to which you can perform a
mail merge is the
To: field. Merging to other fields would require writing your own code,
which is why I directed you to the appropriate group to ask such a question.
Mail merges are a Word function, not an Outlook function.

I need this functionality as well, and simply adding a column that is
concatenated with multiple email addresses separated by either semicolons or
commas doesn't work. CC ability seems like it should a be standard mail
merge tool, as would unique subject lines and attachment fields. I am now
trying to find a 3rd party solution. Please let me know if you know of a

OK, I figured a great solution already made by Microsoft. I tried 3rd party
solution Mail Merge Toolkit, but could never get it to appear during the
final step when it said it should.

But, Publisher 2007 already can do all this (individual CC's, BCC's, and
mass attachment option). I'm very surprised that Word cannot natively do
this but hope this helps the MVP's answer others, as it has saved me many
hours to add in the CC field manually.

I know this is late but I have a partial fix to your problem. While Outlook does not support a CC field, I fixed this problem by creating a rule which looks for the recipient email addresses and then cc's to a person's email address. Its very easy and works for me.
