ASP 0147 Errors Suddenly Started - IIS 5

N

NewScene

System: Windows 2000 Server / IIS 5.0 / SP 4.0
There are about 8 web servers configured on this system, all
low to very low
usage and all but one are very low usage application
testbeds for client testing
and verification.

At the end of last week/beginning of this week we suddenly started having
ASP 0147 errors on one of our web servers. This server supports some
testbeds for application systems under development for clients.

The error we are seeing is:
2003-10-24 22:45:44 64.244.111.195 - 204.107.72.7 80
GET /Default.asp |-|ASP_0147|500_Server_Error 500 Mozilla/4.0+
(compatible;+MSIE+6.0;+Windows+NT+5.0;+T312461)

Everything has been working fine until the past few days when this error
suddenly cropped up. I've seen some suggestions in other venues that the fix
for this is to improve server performance but this machine generally runs in
the < 5% CPU utilization and we've monitored this when we are testing the
applications that are failing and it remains the same.

The paging system does not appear to be overworked, for example right now
the Commit Charge data is
Total 180K
Limit 435K
Peak 185K

The system is configured for auto-install of Windows updates in spite of the
fact that I have little if any confidence in MS updates of late. Does anyone
know of a Hotfix that has been released recently that might be causing this?

If anyone has a clue, please let me know at "johnsteele (AT) insyte (DOT)
com (DOT) not
(obviously remove the "dot not" part)

Thanks
John Steele
