AOL and Earthlink

Is it possible on XP Pro to have both AOL and Earthlink installed at the
same time?

I would like to try them both side-by-side to see which I like better?

Thanks

Yes and No - You can have as many ISP connectoids as you
want. The problem is the software distributed by each. AOL
uses proprietary software/settings. AOL is infamous for installing
Real Audio, AOL Instant Messenger, etc. Earthlink also has
it's own software, but not quite as invasive.

I wouldn't advise you to install both at the same time. You should
"image" your system before starting. Use Earthlink for a few days
then re-image and try AOL. This way once you make a decision
you can install your choice and not have the other on your PC.

You didn't mention your connection mode (Dial-Up, DSL) but
either will work. The thing to remember is you can setup EL with
standard Windows software (IE, Outlook Express) and create your
own connection and not use their software layer. AOL will not
work that way - You must install their software (Version 9.0) is
the latest.

AOL will pretty much break any other connection. I wouldn't EVER use it!

I used AOL for years until I got a cable modem. I would NEVER use AOL
again. AOL is not a real ISP. Try Earthlink. Or better yet, get cable, if it
is available to you.

While listening to the voices in their head blather on endlessly about
inspecific gibberish, Active typed:

You can run side-by-side. Just keep in mind:

-Your Control Panel settings will only be set up for one ISP or the other,
so, while you can manually invoke the non-selected ISP, the ISP you have
configured to be dominant will work with less effort. (You can easily change
these settings.)

-You will never get rid of every last trace of AOL unless you reformat and
reinstall XP, no matter how you uninstall it and attempt to purge AOL. This
is not a big problem, but it bothers some people.

-AOL has some proprietary features that make it less integrated with
Windows, but this doesn't bother everyone.

STAY AWAY FROM AOHELL

There software puts tenticles throughout the entire operating system, and
the ONLY way to truely uninstall it is to reformat the hard drive and reload
from scratch!!!
