Detects unknown trojans? That needs a lot of clarification. I'd be
concerned the heuristics would be juiced and would be giving a high
percentage of false positives.

I'm trying to get some opinions on it because I have the 30-day trial and
wondered if anyone had experience of it as a useful tool (before I
de-install it and forget the registration).

"Optikl," I have seen no false TROJAN +ves in my time of using PC Door
Guard. However, the optional mail scanner marks a few genuine mails as
***SPAM*** although I can live with that. The updates are regular, and it
uses little memory to run in the background.

Well, that's good. Then the part about it detecting unknown trojans is
probably pure marketing hype. Otherwise, explain when it detects unkown
trojans, what is it detecting?

loveletter was not a trojan... nor was sircam...
Weekly Online Updates via built-in update utility
Comprehensive MailScan, removing trojan horses, viruses and Spam from
incoming e-mail messages

i see, so it's an anti-virus product too...

just for comparison, f-prot covers over 100,000 trojans/viruses/malware...
Safe detection and deletion of stealth-viruses (which cannot be detected the
common way), phantom viruses (self-modifying) and many others.

phantom viruses? they're making up their own terms here - the first
indicator of snake-oil...
Constant supervision of your system's health by two advanced monitors which

two monitors for one class of malware?
Heuristic analysis allows for new, unknown viruses and trojans to be
detected.

nothing new there...
All major compressed files are inspected

suitably vague...
Powerful built-in cure utility, which is of great help if you have already
executed a trojan and do not know how to remove it.

nothing new there...
Advanced file manager allows deleting files, even if they are in use by
other processes.

??? their file manager would have to pass the deletion request on to
the OS just like any other file manager... this sounds shifty...
A number of utilities which help you maintain your PC (socket utility,
system info utility, regedit)."

the normal regedit isn't good enough?
Anyone with experience of this utility?

nope, but there's nothing about the description that seems spectacular...
