It was a dark and stormy night when "Rahman"
I am looking for a freeware that if I select a Drive or
alternatively a Folder it show me the size of the drive
and all its sub folders ... or something close to this idea ...

2xExplorer (a file manager):
<http://netez.com/2xExplorer/>

First browse to the intended folder and select 'Tools', 'Folder Data'
or just press Control + D.

iDisk, at http://come.to/under1mb (direct: http://tinyurl.com/63tek):
"this tool is great for reclaiming harddisk space. it lists all the
folders AND THEIR SIZE (in Mb's) on your harddrive. this way you can
easily see where all your space is wasted and where you can start
cleaning. Version: 1.7 Filesize: 171.88 Kb"

Tiny and effective.

I tried downloading but it wouldn't run. An error message said it was
missing a file. Anyone else have this problem?

TrackerV3 calculates and shows folders sizes when you refresh the file list
by Shift+F5. Alternatively you can configure it as to show folder sizes
automatically while browsing your file system.

Strange. I just downloaded it and it worked just fine, even from within a
ZIP file. If you had the enclosed DLL in the same directory as the EXE,
then I can't imagine why this happened.

I highly recommend SpaceMonger.

http://www.werkema.com/software/spacemonger.html
"SpaceMonger is a tool for keeping track of the free space on your
computer. Each file or folder on a given drive is displayed in a box in
the main window whose size is a relative comparison to all the other
files in your system. So, for example, if the "Windows" box takes up 90%
of the screen, the "C:\Windows" folder and all its sub-folders and files
are taking up 90% of your "C:" drive."

I've been using this one for years - Folder Size Shell Extension:

http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file_description/0,fid,15304,00.asp

The download link on that page works fine, I just tested it. I get a
"forbidden" message when I go to the home page, but the link above is
to a PC World page that's current, so it's a very reliable place to
download from.
The extension works with 95 - ME, so I'm assuming it should work
with XP if that's what you use. It does exactly what you're looking for.

TreeSize tells you where precious space has gone to. TreeSize can be
started from the context menu of a folder or drive and shows you the
size of this folder, including its subfolders. You can expand this
folder in Explorer-like style and you will see the size of every
subfolder. Scanning is done in a thread, so you can already see results
while TreeSize is working. The space, which is wasted by the file system
can be displayed and the results can be printed in a report. TreeSize is
Mailware for Windows 9x/NT/2000/XP. <End Quote>

This is version 1.73. I've used the older version 1.62 for a couple of
years now on both Win98se and XP Home and am very pleased with its
performance.
