And the Norton Antivirus 2005 issue?

Is there some possibilities that, with one of the next updates, the "Symantec
Resouce Protector" of Norton AV doesn't go to conflict with Defender anymore?

I would like really to be able to reactivate this Norton AV function for
security!
Thanks for an answer.

As I understand it, you have terminated Norton AV. Have you got any
other antivirus protection? Defender is not an anti-virus protection
and you should be more concerned about viruses than spywares.

Have you tried free AVG/Grisoft for a temporary solution?

You're misinterpreting. The OP has turned off a particular feature of some
Norton versions that alarms if their files are touched in some way. Windows
Defender causes this alarm to go off on every boot, apparently.

hi bill , not on every boot , but maybe 30 and more times a day.
"msmpeng" the real-time protection is constantly trying to get in the files
of norton and is stopped also constantly by the "symantec resource protector"
so the only solution to avoid this is turn one of the 2 off.
so i dit , the real-time protection from defender....

but is there a solution for the conflict , and has the conflict other
problems ?

Thanks for the clarification--it has been a while since the details were
posted, and I haven't seen it first hand.

I don't know that this behavior has changed. There have been two revisions
to the engine and none to the User Interface since the beta2 release, and I
don't recall hearing after the second engine rev whether folks still see
this issue.

We anticipate that there will be a UI revision issued at some point, and
that would be another time to test this interaction. However, I don't know
if this is something Microsoft alone can solve.

I can not find anywhere if leaving Norton and Defender both running with real
time protection and having this conflict will cause you to have a problem
with being protected, does anyone know? It does not seem to be causing me any
problem and I do not get any pop ups, the only way I know it is going on is
to look at the Norton Reports. So does allowing this conflict to go on hurt
anything, until they have a fix.

You should have an antivirus, with real-time protection running along with
Windows Defender. I think you are fine--I don't believe these reports
indicate any problem with the protection provided by either product.

Instead, i have a problem.
If "Symantec Resource Protector" has turned on, besides the appearance of
the logs of access not authorized, as soon as windows has started, the icon
tray of Norton Antivirus immediately appears with a red cross (the real time
protection isn't active); then, only after some minutes, everything returns
normal and Norton becomes active.
So, during this time, I can use the pc, but without an antivirus protection.

i had something similar to mec's problem , first i installed my norton 2006
and afterwards i removed my microsoft antispyware and installed defender.

Everything worked ok , only the log problems , but after doing a system
restore , i was getting troubles with the norton by every reboot "ccapp" was
closed and my protection was gone , only if i started manualy norton
everything wend back ok.

Only thing i was able to do to solve dis problem was reinstall my norton.

afterwards everytrhing was fine.

i think maybe there is a problem with the defender logging in the norton ,
so norton thinks there is a virus-spyware in the restore point and is not
letting windows do a
system restore ?.... maybe thats a possebility....

i think its to easy to say that the real-time protection from defender
problem with the symantec resurce protection problem has no further problems
dan only the log....

other possebility is that norton-symantec 2006 is problematic on is own....

but i think that microsoft and symantec must investigate this problem
together soon.

If your running a Symantec product with Resource Protection, Symantec Support
recommends the following before running System Restore.

To fix this problem, follow the steps in this section. You will disable the
Symantec Resource Protection feature, run Windows System Restore again, and
then turn on Symantec Resource Protection.

The Resource Protection in NIS 2006 also detect Webroot SpySweeper the same
as it does Windows Defender. So this issue is not just limited to Windows
Defender. I think Symantec needs to make some adjustments to its Resouce
Protection System considering that you have to turn it off so that Windows
System Restore can do its job.
