after visioneer scanner hooked up printer does not print properly

Hi!
Recently purchased a new computer with win
XP system. Had windows 98 second edition in the old one.
Had the scanner(visioneer 7600) hooked up between old
computer and printer(HP 710c)and all worked excellent.
Hooked up everything same way with new compaq with
windows XP and printer always prints a line or two one
over the other(double prints same line same place)Removed
scanner and hooked up printer to pc direct and it works
perfect. So I located new drivers for scanner and
installed. (no help)Had HP do a system scan with every
thing hooked up and they said the latest drivers were
installed and could find no problems????????????????Help!

XP will not support piggy backed parallel devices. Connect one of them to a
USB port.
