Hi all,

I will be getting £1500 to spend on a new pc, and to be honest, these days I don't know what to get, as I haven't been able to read up on the latest hardware ect.

Mainly my computer will be used for gaming, so a powerful machine is needed, I really want to play all the games including counter-strike:source and quake 4 on all the highest settings and it will play so smooth.

Can you guys help with making a specification that I can useto build a new pc, as for the monitor if you can get a flat screen that can do over 100 fps and lower then 8ms then that would be great, if not then a crt monitor will surfice.

As for the keyboard, mouse and case, I'll have to look around to find a nice set. Also for the cpu I would like Athlon from what many have told me they're the best for gaming, and for the graphics card I would really prefer a radeon.

Thanks in advance :)

well its gonna be pretty much the same as the one in the thread floppy linked to

ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe

Athlon64 3700

1GB Corsair XMS3200C2PT CAS 2

LiteOn SOHW-1693S DVD-RW

Leadtek 6800GT

2X 36GB Western Digital Raptors

300GB Maxtor SATA HD

Iiyama ProLite 19" E481S-B LCD

Floppy drive

a decent PSU is also recomended, Tagan make some good ones

that comes in around £1270

if you change the 6800GT to an HIS X850XT PE then your looking at about £1360

and an XFX 7800GTX Extreme Edition will come in just under £1500

the AMD X2 isnt as fast as the FX-55 in gaming, so i would skip it for now.
as for graphics cards ATI's X850XT PE is thier fastest card
Nvidia the 7800GTX is fastest single card out there.
since you want to play the upcoming quake 4 with everything maxed out... prepare to fork over some heafty cash for a machine like that.
what im thinking is something along the lines...
AMD FX-57
DFI SLI mobo
2x 7800GTX
1-2GB RAM
...
something like that should do :)

a 7800GTX would probably be the best card for the job and by the time Quake 4 comes out you may be able to get another one, you'll be able to get it with the spec i suggested and just under budget :thumb:
