The subject heading says it all. I have been given some *.avi's.
They won't play when imported into ppt. But if I change the extension
to *.mpg, they do play perfectly on my computer.

But when I email them, the recipient cannot play them.

I'm guessing the file is linked to the videos on my drive. What's the
simple fix? This presentation is going before the world on Tuesday!

thx!

"> But when I email them, the recipient cannot play them."

Do you mean email the powerpoint file??

If so did you place the vids in the same folder as the presentation before
inserting and have you sent a folder with vid files and powerpoint th
recipienr?

Thanks GaryJaz. I've been fighting the same problem for two days now and your
fix worked. I had all the required files in the same folder and when I went
to play them I got the sound but not the video. I would never have thought to
change the suffix. The same videos worked just fine on my older computer as
AVI files but on the newer larger computer just purchased it didn't work.
Methinks there's a problem with PowerPoint

"Methinks there's a problem with PowerPoint"

"Methinks" its more likely that the new wizzy computer has a free video
editor / player which has changed the .avi settings in the MCI.

With all due respect to your position as a Microsoft Office Certified
Individual, could you please explain what MCI means in your terminology,
other than a telephone company, and why both RealPlayer and the Windows Media
Player do not have any problems playing the AVI file in question but
PowerPoint does?

Thanks,

MCI = Media Control Interface, which is what PowerPoint uses to handle
sound. Real Player has a tendency to take away this function when installed.
You may want to visit here and read up all about it.
