Isn't really a windows Application but didn't know where else to put it, here is our problem -

If you have 1 server with Windows 2000 server running active directory and you want to replace it with a 2003 box what way do you go about doing it?

We have ran dcpromo on the 2003 server and made that a domain controller in the old domain. Now how do we go about making that the main domain controller and not the other one?

So to sum up the two machines are in the domain as domain controllers both can see active directory stuff but if you diconnect the main one from the network the new one cant see the active directory stuff anymore!!

Any answers would be gratefully appreciated.

First of all, when you DCpromo,

Did you forestprep you domain for the changes in active directory schema..?

Did you make sure that the Win2k3 machine was a member of the same forest & domain...?

Have you transferred the FSMO roles over to the Win2k3 machine..? If you to DCpromo out the Win2K machine, you must do that.

Have you moved essential AD services (DNS, any DHCP configs) to the new DC...?

What does Active Directory sites and services tell you about your AD..?

Do have Exchange or MS SQL running..?

Answer these questions first..
