Accessing Web Sites

Carol

I try to go to a website(even AOL keyword Help) and I get
a page that comes up "Action Canceled". It says to "Click
the refresh button". I do that and a page comes up "This
Page Cannot Be Displayed". I get these two messages on
every page or website I try to access.(This all happens
when I am on the AOL site.) I use IE browser, but on AOL.
Right now I had to go on Internet Explorer so I could get
to this help site. Thanks for any help.

If it doesn't happen in IE but happens when you access using AOL's software
or browser, it's there issue.

One thing that might cause this is if you have the XP Firewall turned on.
Open Control Panel, go to Network Connections, right click your Internet
Connection, select properties, go to the Advanced tab and make sure the
firewall is not turned on. You can probably use a third party firewall with
AOL but you should check with them about compatibility. You shouldn't turn
off the SP firewall, at least not while connected to the Internet, unless
you have another and you are sure it is installed an active as viruses can
enter your system through open ports. The above information is meant only
to allow you check whether or not the XP firewall is turned on as that might
be the issue as it is not compatible with AOL.

Other than that, you would need to contact AOL tech support.

Thanks for the info, Michael. If I sign off AOL and turn
the computer off, then turn it back on again, sometimes I
don't get these error messages. What does that sound like
to you? Thanks

It still sounds like some conflict with AOL software. You would really need
to run this down with AOL tech support.

It's possible something is hung in the cache which is being cleared after a
period of time and when you shut down and then boot you temporarily don't
have the issue. But if this is AOL's browser, I couldn't begin to tell you
how to clear it manually assuming that is even the issue.
