Accessing/Importing emails in old .dbx files - Comp. crash

R

Ron

My computer recently crashed (actually Windows XP was
corrupted somehow) and I was able to install my hard drive
in another computer as slave drive and pull off data. I
have my old Outlook Express *.DBX files now on CD. I have
a new drive and Windows XP is fully restored on it and my
Outlook Express is working, but I am trying to figure out
how to get the emails from the old *.DBX files accessible
again through OE. Does anyone have any ideas ? Even if
they could be brought back as "local folders" that would
be fine (i.e. I don't have to have old Inbox emails
brought into new Inbox, etc.). Any thoughts would be
greatly appreciated...

Thanks !

If you copied out the folders.dbx file as well, then you shoudl just be
able to move them local and use the import wizard. Remember to select
"Import mail from an OE store directory" so that you can browse to where
you copied the mail. THe mail will have to be local, and not marked as
read only.

If you did not copy the folders.dbx file out, then do the following.
1. Open Outlook Express and get it working, minus your old e-mail
2. Click Tools -> Options -> Maintenance Tab -> Store Folder
3. Copy your DBX files, into this location
4. makesure they are not read-only
4. rename the folders.dbx file
5. start Outlook Express
