Access error message: "Data type mismatch in criteria expression"

New to Access, acquired a database that is now giving me this error & do not
know where to look for a resolution. When I try to update the database I get
this error message: "Data type mismatch in criteria expression". Any help
would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you Roger, I will look into this & see if I can find a place in my
folders that I search where I do not have the correct format. That is what I
needed to know... at least this is a place to start, thanks again.

Outstanding Roger, thank you... I did in fact find an Excel folder that had a
column that needed to be formatted as "Text" & was not. Thanks for all your
help, Pete

You have an error in the query that you're trying to update, probably using a
Text criterion on a Number field (such as a Lookup Field, which looks like it
contains text but actually contains a concealed numeric ID). Please open the
query you're using in SQL view and post it here if you would like help.

How are you trying to update the database? Using a form? Datasheet
view? Compact and repair?
