Hello,
i've a new Asus A7V880 MB
i've installed all my 4 banks of 512Mb DDR400.
But when i try to install XP SP2 there is a problem
i cannot complete the installation process...
I've tryed a lot of times, i've changed the position of my ram banks and
nothing happens.
I've updates to the newest bios and nothing happens.
I've formatted all my hd and nothing happens.
I've very embittered?
Someone wishes to help me please?
Is there available a modded bios for A7V880?
Thanks

Before installing an OS, you should test the basic function
of the computer. Get a copy of Memtest86+ from www.memtest.org .
For example:

http://www.memtest.org/download/1.55.1/memtest86+-1.55.1.floppy.zip

Unzip the program, and execute memtest to format a blank floppy.
The memtest program will put some bootable code on the floppy.
Set the BIOS boot order, to include booting from the floppy.
With the floppy inserted in the drive, you should see a 640x480
screen containing the memtest86 output, once the memtest86 program
is loaded at boot time. If there are errors showing, or the memtest
program crashes, then you need to figure out what is wrong with the
computer. You should not install an OS on the computer, until the
computer is stable and error free.

*******
To make the computer more stable, you could try the following.

In the BIOS, go to Advanced:JumperFree Configuration.

Set "AI Overclock Tuner" to [Manual]. You will see a
"CPU Frequency" setting appear. Set "CPU Frequency"
to [100].

The purpose of making this change, is to slow down the
processor, to a stable operating point. Since the DRAM
settings are all set to [Auto], the DRAM should automatically
be slowed down as well.

Do "Exit and Save Changes" to complete the operation.

You can run memtest86+ again, to see if the computer now runs
error free.

*******
If you can do at least several passes of memtest86+ error free,
you can return to trying to install the OS.

Sometimes installing the OS does not work, because the CDROM
drive is having trouble reading the Windows install disk.
Verify that the disk is readable with your CDROM drive, by
testing the CDROM drive on another computer.

If you are still having trouble installing the OS, please
include more details as to exactly what happens when the
installation fails. Is the installation process failing
when the computer reboots ? Is the installation process
failing while files are being copied to the hard drive ?
Are there any words printed on the computer screen ? The
words are very important, and you should copy them exactly
as they appear, into your next USENET message.

Paul

Make certain you are using a good PSU (power supply). It is
possible for a defective PSU to kill a motherboard.

Also just start with minimum config when installing, then install
peripherals after OS is installed.
I have 4 banks filled with 1.5GB RAM and no problems.
