A saved doc is opening as a new blank doc

Some time ago I typed a document and saved it. After that, every time
I try to open a new blank document, the saved doc keeps opening. I
don't know how to change it so that a blank new document will open.

Sounds like you've inadvertently saved the new document as or inside of
Normal.dot. (That is the file that generates a 'new' document.) Do a Windows
Search on "Normal.dot" and then either delete every instance found of it.
(If you are quesy about deleting, rename it.) Word will recreate Normal.dot
the next time it opens, resetting everything back to the original defaults.

And you *should* be queasy about deleting it, which is never recommended. If
you rename it, you will still be able to retrieve most of your
customizations, which for some users could represent years of work.
