Paul,

You're not providing a lot of detail there, and there are no mind readers here.
Please prepare yourself for some reading. Follow the links!

One of the most common causes of your type of problem would be a misconfigured
or overlooked personal firewall, or other security component. There are several
other possibilities too, and any might be the cause of your problem. Read this
article with an open mind.

For more direct help, provide "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all" from each
computer, so we can diagnose the problem. Read this article, and linked
articles, and follow instructions precisely (download browstat!):

may help others in the future, and that's the purpose of these forums.

<SNIP>

Paul,

The ipconfig information is most useful when presented in pairs. And with as
much detail as possible.

But there's one clue on that ipconfig!
Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Peer-Peer
<http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/05/address-resolution-on-lan.html#Peer-Peer>
http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/05/address-resolution-on-lan.html#Peer-Peer

I'm not going to predict that fixing the "Peer-Peer" will fix all of your
problems, but you should start there.

Solved it . Lack of knowledge and a dodgy keyboard / mouse combination ( too
many pointing devices ) confusing the issue . Thanks
