100% CPU usage right after startup (high svchost.exe)

My laptop is extremely slow and crashes often. tsmgr
shows 100% CPU usage (high svchost.exe) right after
startup with no special applications running.
I can attach a picture of my tasks screen so one can see
better my relevant computer data. By comparing it to a
healthy computer I see that "dmserver" is missing. Does
it matter?
Laptop is protected by Norton uptodate antivirus and I
ran numerous other virus+worms checks without results.
I think it is certainly an XP problem.
Kindly tell me how to cure this laptop.

Hi,

I am also experiencing problems as are others (Dick
Shrewsbury, Marie, Allen) that just may be your problem,
too.

Dick, Allen, and I all get temporarily cured by a restart
of the computer. Do you?

We also have the CPU in the 90% range when it is slow.

Look for posts with subjects of
Slow computer
High CPU usage

Someone will figure it out someday! I hope the fix is
found soon!

Hi
We have a similar problem here with a desktop machine and found by trial and
error that if we removed the USB keyboard the cpu went back to 1 or 2%
immediately reconnected keyboard all OK might then boot 6 or more times
before the problem returns!!!!
