You can have broadband... but at a price!

Quote:
For Beverley McCartney has been told that to install broadband at her home would cost her £150,000 - and that does not include a monthly subscription.

Days after BT announced huge profits, it emerged that the company told the 71-year-old it would cost her £129,613.54 plus VAT to connect her house near Llandeilo, in Carmarthenshire.

She said: 'I phoned BT and said surely this is a typing error and the girl said, "No, there's been no mistake, other people have had bills for much more than this'.

For that price, she could probably burn the entire internet to a few hundred thousand DVDs

Hopefully she will live in an area with mobile broadband... I was surprised at how fast 3G broadband can actually be!

Not sure what the guy's at BT were thinking but if I was in-charge of sales at BT I would send a polite letter explaining the services are not available in her area at this moment of time and if there is any change she would be contacted again.

Just the time for another provider to get some good free advertising by offering their service at a more normal cost. BT will not only loose a customer, but get bad press from it!

I think it's a disgrace. Poor woman, was actually going to be charged for the laying and supply of the line.. Anyway, I thought you brits were all promised superfast broadband everywhere by the government last year or two years ago.

Its too much for a broadband connection. It's unfair.

As with all British government promises they only apply to London or the richer parts of London, naturally everyone in the uk is expected to pay for these promises for the good of the nation.( nation= a few rich folk living in London)

Its a pity the average joe bloggs can't sue whatever company refuses to supply their product when they supply it to the better off areas like you mentioned, like londons richer parts. Its a disgrace. Bring back robin hood....he'd sort it out. lol.
