regarding your mobo problems - something like this would be a possiblity

because it takes both SDR and DDR memory - you have 2x256mb PC133 I think?
It would take your 1.3 CPU and allow an upgrade to an XP2400 at a later
date. I have a similar board with an XP2400 and 1gb DDR - good enough for
current games at modest settings.
It should also take your 6600GT no problem but remember your need a 350w or
better PSU.

Those were rather poor boards, it was like a lottery whether
you got one that ran well or exploded or something inbetween
these two extremes.

512MB of DDR memory is about $35, it's not really worth
buying a board that supports PC133 for socket A unless
performance really doesn't matter at all.

I was under the impression he was on a tight budget so the idea of board
that does both types of RAM makes sense and would allow him to use existing
CPU and RAM then gradually upgrade those parts. And unfortunately there
arent that many boards that take both types of RAM around to choose from.
ECS arent the best make of motherboard its true but then he is using a
M810LMR already. Frankly Ive known Asus boards go belly up after 18 months
so I dont think brands guarantee anything. He's using a 1.3ghz Athlon so I
dont think performance is a major concern.

Except some versions of that particular board won't even run
stable with 2 PC133 DIMMs.

You can only run one type or the other at a time, there's
not really a need to support both types.

No guarantee, but then again if one was looking to avoid a
board with early failure or problems then it's far wiser to
choose Asus than ECS/PCChips/et al. Citing "some" bad
boards ignores the majority of them, what is expected to
produce best result.
