I have a network with a Windows 2003 server as my DC and it is running AD,
DNS and DHCP for about 15 Win2KPro workstaions. This works fine.

I am trying to get a WinXPPro onto my network domain (WMP1). When I try to
join from the XP computer I get an error that a DC for the domain WMP1 could
not be contacted.

I ran the Network Diagnostics tool in XP and it reported that a ping to its
own IP address timed out. I don't understand why.

Run an ipconfig /all on this workstation.

Ok, I ran ipconfig /all. The settings match those on my Win2K macine except
the
"Primary DNS Suffix...: "
is blank where on my Win2K machine is has
"Primary DNS Suffix...: WMP1.local".

So now you know that you need to set the XP boxen to look for their DNS
to the server.
